  • Week 9

Only 1 more month of school! This is my last semester! WOO HOO!

    Progress on Project 2

After finishing the Home and About pages last week, we have discussed starting development for the Services page and it’s four interior pages. This week I will be focused on creating the Services page. Once I get a good layout for the services page I will then use that template for the interior pages and just make some small changes.

This week I have completed the layout for the Services page. I was able to create one interior page as well. I am waiting for my client manager to approve the layouts. Usually, he will take a peak at the pages and make sure they are fully responsive. If he doesn’t notice anything he will approve the layout. If he notices something I will go in and fix it.

    Progress on Project 3

We are still waiting to hear back from the client about our designs. We did get our logo redesign approved from the client! Yet, the Home page and interior page designs have not yet been approved.

  • Week 7

    Progress on Project 2

This week I have finished up developing the layout for the Home and About page for this website. I have had a couple meetings with one of our client managers about what the next steps are going forward with this project.

    Ongoing Discussions for Project 3

We have been in contact with the client, and we are finally starting our graphic designing for this project. This usually takes the graphic designer about a week or two and then it takes about a week to hear back from the client. When we hear back from the client we will discuss the changes that need to be made to the design and from there we will continue to move forward to development.

  • Week 6

    Wrapping Up Project 1

Project 1 has officially been up and running for a week. We are now just doing weekly maintenance.

    Progress on Project 2

After setting up the global settings last week, I have focused on developing the Home Page and the About page on this website. Usually our graphic designer will make the layout using lorem ipsum and then I will go in and recreate it inside of WordPress. Then when the design gets approved by the clients, one of our Client Specialists will write the content for the page.

    Ongoing Discussions for Project 3

We have gotten the theme for this project approved. Yet, we are still waiting for feedback from the company we are working with. There hasn’t been much progress made on this site this week.

  • Week 5

    Wrapping Up Project 1

This week we successfully launched Project 1. We were able to focus on our post-launch. This included things like setting up re-directs, submitting the sitemap to Google, and just double checking that everything on the site was functioning properly. Going forward we will be keeping a close eye on the website to make sure it doesn’t have any issues. Also, I will be adding this website to my list of sites to do weekly maintenance on.

    Progress on Project 2

After picking out the perfect WordPress theme last week, we switched up our focus this week. We focused on setting up the backend of the WordPress website including global colors, fonts, and removing unnecessary plugins/post/pages.

    Ongoing Discussions for Project 3

Last week we picked a few themes to consider for this website. We ended up landing on a good theme. Yet, we are still waiting for feedback from the company we are working with. There hasn’t been much progress made on this site this week.

  • Week 4

    Wrapping Up Project 1

Project 1 is nearing completion, and this week I’ve been focused on the final touches. One of my key tasks has been ensuring accessibility and SEO best practices by adding alt descriptors to all images and pages. This step is crucial in making the site more user-friendly and improving search engine visibility. Attention to these small details helps create a polished final product that meets both client expectations and industry standards.

    Progress on Project 2

A significant breakthrough for Project 2 was discovering the perfect WordPress theme. Finding the right theme is a game-changer, as it provides a strong foundation for the website’s design and functionality. With this decision made, we can now shift our focus to customization, ensuring that the theme aligns with the client’s brand and specific needs.

    Ongoing Discussions for Project 3

Meanwhile, Project 3 is still in the planning phase when it comes to choosing a theme. We are weighing different options, considering factors such as design flexibility, performance, and compatibility with required features. Selecting the right theme is an important step, as it will dictate the direction of the development process.

  • Week 3

    New Website Projects Progress

In addition to website maintenance, I am currently working on three new website projects. Each project has its own set of requirements, timelines, and challenges, making it a dynamic and engaging experience. This week, I focused on:

    • Project 1: Finalizing the website structure and ensuring the design aligns with client expectations.
    • Project 2 & 3: Deciding on website theme and reviewing with team members.

Balancing multiple projects requires strong time management and organization. I’ve been using project management tools to keep track of tasks and deadlines, ensuring steady progress across all three websites.

    Key Takeaways from the Week

This week has reinforced the importance of flexibility and effective communication in web development. Client requests can come in unexpectedly, and being able to pivot while staying on track with long-term projects is crucial. I’ve also found that documenting my progress and setting daily priorities helps me stay focused and productive.

  • Week 2

As I wrap up my second week of my internship class, I’ve had another busy and productive week at work. Being a full-time web developer for me means juggling multiple responsibilities, and this week was no exception. My main tasks involved maintaining existing client websites, implementing changes on a case-by-case basis, and continuing development on three new website projects simultaneously.

    Website Maintenance and Client Updates

One of the core parts of my job is ensuring that our existing client websites run smoothly. This week, I worked on routine maintenance, including software updates, performance optimization, and troubleshooting any issues that arose. I also handled several client requests, which ranged from minor content updates to functionality enhancements. Every client has unique needs, so I had to be adaptable and problem-solve efficiently to meet their expectations.

  • Week 1

Although I am in my first week of the internship class, I have been working as a Web Developer for 3 years now. So far, I have learned about resumes, cover letters, having a professional LinkedIn, and presenting yourself professionally online. The response from the student services was a great help on my resume and cover letter. I have had a great time in this class and I hope to finish strong. Thanks for reading!
